Faith Is Not Mental Assent Part 1

Faith Is Not Mental Assent Part 1

There are many who slam the Word of Faith movement. Yes, the modern-day WOF might have taken it quite far stretched in some areas, but it didn't begin that way. We don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are good stuff that we can always learn from, regardless of any pulpit. In fact, the WOF shows us more about faith in the Word than many others.

Unknown to many, Kenneth Hagin wasn't the founder of the Word of Faith. The distortion in the modern-day WOF wasn't taught by him. It was his colleagues and the preachers after him who deviated from truths. In fact, he addressed the abuses before he died.

"Financial prosperity is not a sign of God's blessing."
"People should never give in order to get."
"It is not biblical to name your seed in an offering."
"There is no debt-breaking anointing."

Yeah there are many naysayers (usually the conservatives) who took his teachings out of context and slammed his theology, without thoroughly reading through his teachings. If you come with a biased mindset, everything you read will always be through a biased len. Kenneth Hagin probably walked in love and truth more than anyone of us who is alive and kicking. Yeah you might not know because you are biased.

His teachings on faith are worth reading. One regular quote is this... "Faith is not mental assent".

- Kenneth Hagin

Alot of people say that they believe in the Word... they believe in healing, etc. But believing is only true believing when it produces an outcome (Mark 11:24).

You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons ๐›๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ฏ๐ž—and shudder! - James 2:19

The word 'believe' used here is 'pisteuรณ'. It is the exact same word used when Jesus taught His disciples, including Mark 11:24.

So what's the difference between the demons believing and us believing? The demons believe God but they did not receive salvation. We believe God and we receive salvation.

Because true believing must produce an outcome (James 2:20). If we don't act on our belief, it is not true believing. If we only say that we believe, it is simply mental assent that is no different from the demons. Thus, a person who says that he believes God but has zero change/desire to change in his life is simply the same as a demon ---- a demon's belief.

When someone says that he believes in healing, but there is no fruit and course of action, it means that he only has mental assent but does not truly believe.

We will talk more about it in the next part.

Bearing Witness With Signs & Wonders

Bearing Witness With Signs & Wonders

There are two schools of thoughts: one thinks that working out signs and wonders at will has stopped with the original apostles; the other thinks that when signs and wonders are worked through the hands of the preacher, God must be bearing witness to the preacher.

Well, nothing is further from the truth.

So they remained for a long time, speaking boldly for the Lord, ๐–๐ก๐จ ๐›๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ง๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ of His grace, ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฐ๐จ๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ to be done by their hands. - Acts 14:3

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก [them] ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐ซ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ ๐ก ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐œ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ง๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ฌ. Amen. - Mark 16:20

Note: The word 'them' is not in the original Greek translation. It was added by the English translator.

It lies with the simple interpretation of the Word. Many who advocate exegesis and inductive approach are actually unknowingly practising eisegesis and deductive without realising it. They put renowned preacher's experiences, own experiences and the world's experiences onto the pedestal, instead of the Word.

God bears witness to His Word, not to the original apostles and neither is it the preacher who works signs and wonders. God upholds His Word because His Word is exalted above His name and there is total integrity in it.

If you are not seeing signs and wonders, perhaps the Word that you share/preach is different from the Bible, so God cannot bear witness/confirm a message that is not from Him.

A Gospel message without signs and wonders is a man-made speech that has no revelation of His love and power. It's a TED-talk that has no kingdom in it.

Intently

In the book of Acts, we noticed that the phrase "Looking Intently" has been used a couple of times (3:4; 13:9; 14:9). The word 'intently' means to 'keep one's eyes or mind fixed on something because you are fully occupied with (or taken by).'

Personally, I have seen how this works when I minister healing to others. You don't have to lay a single hand. Neither do you have to say a single word. Just that preoccupation alone suffices to see people healed, because healing flows from the Spirit to the spirit-soul-body.

It's not what you touch or what you say that releases the law of the Spirit of life. It's how 'INTENTLY' you are.

Here is a testimony of how powerful an intent is, when a friend drove to my car park.

Wifey Got Herself Healed

I started a discipline of confession of truths with my son daily. We declared the Word of God in our lives.

Two days back, my wife felt under the weather in the morning. She started coughing quite abit by the afternoon.

Little did I know that when I was out in the late afternoon, she started to follow the confession of truths on her own.

By evening, her cough was gone, her strength was restored and she was totally healed. She got herself healed.

All these happened on the same day.

I look forward to the day when my whole family walks in the reality of divine health and protection.

Yes. This is for you and your household too.

The 'Two' Pentecost

The 'Two' Pentecost

The Promise of the Father was fulfilled and given on the Day of Pentecost (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4; 2:1-4) as promised by Jesus.

This is also known as the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which is the fulfillment of prophet Joel's prophecy (Acts 2:16-21; Joel 2:28-32).

During the first and only Pentecost, the Holy Spirit ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ง upon all the Jews and the proselytes aka Jewish converts (Acts 2:11). No Gentiles had received the Promise of the Father yet.

And suddenly ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ฆ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ง a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. - Acts 2:2

During the 'second' Pentecost, the Holy Spirit ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ง upon the Gentiles, completing the prophecy by Joel (Acts 11:17; Joel 2:28-32).

While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit - Acts 10:44

As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit - Acts 11:15

The Holy Spirit only ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฏ๐ž๐ง upon people on these two incidents: first for the Jews, then the Gentiles.

Apart from that, nowhere in the book of Acts and throughout the entire New Testament talks about the outpouring (fell upon, fell from heaven) of the Holy Spirit anymore.

The Holy Spirit, however, was only given through ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ก๐š๐ง๐๐ฌ by both apostles and ordinary believers (Acts 8:17; 9:17; 19:6).

Why is this important? The earth today is not waiting for another Pentecost or outpouring of the Holy Spirit, because God has ALREADY fulfilled and given the Promise.

The earth is waiting for the manifestation of the sons of God who will release the Pentecost (aka the baptism of the Holy Spirit) through the law of the Spirit of Life within us (John 7:38; Rom 8:2), because Christ in you is the Hope of glory.

P.S: When people are baptised in the Holy Spirit in a meeting, it's not because God is pouring Him out once again. It's because the Body of Christ (filled with the Spirit within) is pouring Him out from their belly/heart (John 7:38).

Loving Your Neighbours

Loving Your Neighbours

There are many ways in which we can love our neighbours in this 'pan-there-meek'. But what I am going to share might be something different from what you already know as a believer.

Yes, you might be doing what you can, which includes giving to the needy, praying/ministering healing for people, helping others, taking vexination (with the right motive; otherwise it's still for self benefit only), etc.

But there is ONE thing we can do ๐š๐ฌ ๐›๐ž๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ to love our neighbours ------ that is to ๐ฐ๐š๐ฅ๐ค ๐ข๐ง ๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก.

In all circumstances take up the ๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ž๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก, with which you can ๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Ÿ๐ฅ๐š๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ of the evil one. - Eph 6:16

Since the shield of faith can extinguish the flaming darts of the evil one, you protect your neighbours by walking in faith. Why? When you walk in faith (instead of fear), you repel sickness and you cannot become a virus-carrier.

This is how you protect and love the people around you. Because the vexination does not stop you from being a carrier. Statistics have shown that the vexine cannot repel sickness. So if you (believers) really want to love your neighbours, it's not by taking vexine, but by walking in faith so that you extinguish the flaming darts. Because if you take the vexine and you still walk in fear, you have much potential to become the virus-carrier.

Of course, this is just one different way of loving people, apart from the many ways you already know.

I know this is not talked in the institution and it sounds abnormal. Well, the Kingdom of God is an upside down kingdom. It is never the same as the world. If your belief is so similar to the world, yours might not be Christianity.

Disclaimer: Walking in faith does not mean ignorance and recklessness. It is about trusting Him and keeping your mind stayed on Him so that quiet confidence is born from within to repel sickness.

Dominate, Not Tolerate

Dominate, Not Tolerate

The word 'authority' means 'delegated empowerment, operating in a designated jurisdiction'.

If we do not know our designated jurisdiction, we will not know how to use our delegated empowerment. To the degree we know what we have been given dominion over, to that degree we can use His authority.

You and I have no authority on our own. It is delegated from Christ. Since it is delegated from Him, it is not based on your performance, behaviour, education, intellect, spirituality, etc.

A policeman can be weak and small in size, yet he still has the authority from the gahmen as long as he operates within his delegated jurisdiction.

Do not think that you are just an ordinary believer without much authority as compared to 'spiritual giants'. The difference between the two is just that the 'spiritual giant' knows his delegated authority more.

Your designated jurisdiction is over all the powers of the enemy (Luke 10:19), because you have been given dominion (Gen 1:28) on earth with the authority in heaven (Matt 16:19).

In the Old Covenant, you were supposed to play defence (Psalm 91). In the New Covenant, your best defence is a good offense (Luke 10:19).

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, - Luke 10:19

The sequence of the verse shows that as you advance (offend), you have divine protection. There are things that I do (which I can't share here as it's sensitive) by offending the enemy, and yet I walk in protection. So I know this is real.

Do not let fear overtake you. Do not let news overtake you. Let the truth of His word overtake you. Let His delegated authority in you overtake you. Let His designated jurisdiction for you overtake you.

The current 'pan-there-meek' might seem devastating in many countries. But we cannot afford to take our eyes off our delegated authority to operate in our designated jurisdiction.

Arise and take dominion. Do not tolerate by backing off.

P.S: We did nothing to deserve living in Singapore. If we think our situation is bad, open your eyes and see what other countries are going through. I would think that ours is not even a tiny fraction of what they are going through.

The Lifestyle of a Christian

The Word of God is the last command of Christ. Instead of waiting for a prompting of the Spirit before we move, we need to understand that we are already prompted by the Word, which is the commandment of God.

If we don’t obey His last word, what makes us think that He needs to speak more?

The prompting of the Spirit is not the default lifestyle of a believer. The default lifestyle is obedience to what He has already said —— in the Word of God.

Instead of waiting for the Spirit to direct us, we need to acknowledge that the Spirit lives in us so that we can move and be directed by the Word of God, until the Spirit directs us otherwise.

The lifestyle of a Christian is to keep moving in accordance with the Word until we are moved by the prompting of the Spirit to act differently.

The Gospel With Baptism

The Gospel with Baptism

Many of us have learnt to share/preach the Gospel without baptism. What does it mean?

We were taught to present the Gospel without the need to talk about baptism. We relegate baptism to the process of discipleship where the new believer is finally ready to commit himself to be baptised.

However, this was not so in the early church. Neither is it in the Bible. The message that Jesus left for the disciples was clear: "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and ๐ข๐ฌ ๐›๐š๐ฉ๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐ž๐ will be saved..." (Mark 16:15-16)

Throughout the book of Acts, those who believed in the Gospel were immediately baptised in water (Acts 2:38; 2:41; 8:12; 8:13; 8:16; 8:38; 9:18; 10:48; 16:15; 16:33; 18:8).

Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and - Acts 8:35-37

What made the eunuch want to be baptised in water? The Good News aka the Gospel was shared by Philip. In other words, the Gospel must include baptism because it marks the death, the burial and the resurrection of Christ. It is the full message of Christ our Saviour and Christ our Lord.

Today, we have somehow become masters in learning separation. Instead of learning to divide the Word, we have learnt to divide the Gospel to suit our audience. Perhaps it's time to go back to the Word for what it is and what it says.

Vaccinated By The Blood

Since the g has decided to d̵i̵s̵c̵r̵i̵m̵i̵n̵a̵t̵e̵ separate those who have taken the vexination and those who have not, that mentality will soon be imparted to its residents.

It seems that those who have been vexinated are fearful of those who haven’t. By simple logic, those who haven’t should be more fearful of those who have, IF the vexine is indeed working. Apparently, it is not.

Anyway, logic does not work when the spirit realm is involved. It’s called the spirit of fear and intimidation. It has also crept into the church.

Soon, the common question when you enter a place or a group will be, “Have you taken your vexination?” If you haven’t, the place/group may not want to admit you in (because of the spirit of fear).

Perhaps we should just reply, “Yes. I have been vexinated”, in order to keep the peace in the situation. But we know deep inside that it’s vexination by the blood of Christ.

Someone might ask, “Which vexine did you take?” Because they want more assurance.

We can only reply, “My vexine i̵s̵ ̵n̵o̵t̵ ̵o̵f̵ ̵t̵h̵i̵s̵ ̵w̵o̵r̵l̵d̵ is not under the national programme.”

“What is the name of it?”

“่ทŸ̶ไฝ ̶่ฎฒ̶ไฝ ̶ๅˆ̶ๅฌ̶ไธ̶ๆ‡‚̶, ๅธฆ̶ไฝ ̶ๅŽป̶ๅˆ̶ๅคช̶่ฟœ̶ ̵” “Yeshua Hamashiach”

The spirit of fear is real. But the Spirit of Power, of Love and of a Sound Mind is way Greater.

Hurting Your Faith

Hurting Your Faith

There are things in life that can either reinforce our faith or hurt our faith. We have a choice and we can choose it wisely. As far as you want to grow, you will be very focused and determined in your choices.

Each time when we do something that contradicts our faith, we bruise it. We hurt it. If we shipwreck our conscience, we shipwreck our faith.

For example, I do not take medication. Because my conscience in the area of healing and health has reached a point where I cannot take it without hurting my faith. This is not legalism. Neither is it everyone's required standard. If I shipwreck my conscience, I will shipwreck my faith.

Another example. Feeding bad news regularly hurts our faith. Faith comes from hearing Good News. But fear comes from hearing bad news. You cannot desire to grow in faith yet you love to watch bad news.

Each time when I watch a China/Korean drama series that involve sickness, hospitalisation, accident, etc., I will naturally respond in ministering healing to the character in the screen. I think both my wife and my son think I'm crazy. It started off a few times as a natural reaction, but soon it became deliberate on my end, because I do not allow carnality to enter my mind and defile it.

Recently, while a similar scene happened on the screen, God spoke to me, "If you keep watching this, it will hurt your faith." I brushed it aside and it kept coming back. So I'm making a decision to stop watching shows related to doctors. Again, this is not legalism. This is conviction. Yeah I might be extreme. But I rather be effective in the Kingdom, than be lukewarm in this area.

You and I only get one shot in this temporal life. We can either be intentional or live convenient. I have ONE thing that I am going after.

What is yours?

Sickness Flees

I had two consecutive rounds of watery diarrhoea yesterday. There was some discomfort in my stomach. So I told it to get out of me because I was healed by His stripes.

Since I didn’t tell my wife anything, she bought a bowl of spicy curry chicken with white rice for me.

My stomach was still feeling weird. But I learnt not to live by my feeling and my flesh, so I just ate up the spicy curry. If I believe that I am healed, I can act upon it as though I already have it.

It’s really not about what you say. A lot of people think that confession can get you something. No, it can’t. It’s about what you believe.

The symptoms disappeared after the curry meal. So for the next meal, I ate spicy Mala chicken so that I could nail it completely.

I’m still feeling awesomely good now.

“If sickness comes near me, I run towards it and it will flee seven ways.” - John G Lake

Mark 11:24 - Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it is yours.

It’s either you tolerate or you dominate. For you can only dominate what you don’t tolerate. This applies to today’s pandemic too.

When Do You Obey Your Leaders?

When Do You Obey Your Leaders?

The Kingdom of heaven has an upside down leadership as compared to the kingdom of the earth.

The earthly kings usually lord over people (Matt 20:25), but the Heavenly King showed us that He led as a Servant (Matt 20:28). He told His disciples to do likewise (Matt 20:26-27).

The context of obedience must be a response to love (John 15:12). Obedience demanded without the context of love is just human lordship and oppressive rule.

Note: Jesus did not say "Obey Me so that My job is easier." No. He said, "Keep My commandments and you will stay in My love. Because I have loved you (John 15:9-10, paraphrase).

In other words, the call for obedience is for t̵h̵e̵ ̵l̵e̵a̵d̵e̵r̵'̵s̵ ̵s̵a̵k̵e̵ our sake because it is a call of love. But we must not assume that just because a leader is a Christian, he must be loving you.

Therefore, a leader quoting Heb 13:17 does not appropriate any obedience. Because a verse that is taken out of context is a pretext for a proof text. There is only one such verse in the Bible by the way.

The preceding passage to Heb 13:17 is Heb 13:7. It says, "Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the ๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐†๐จ๐. Consider the outcome of ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ข๐ซ ๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฅ๐ข๐Ÿ๐ž, and ๐ข๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ข๐ซ ๐Ÿ๐š๐ข๐ญ๐ก."

First and foremost, ๐ฐ๐ž ๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐ญ๐จ ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ฒ ๐†๐จ๐, not the leaders. Apostle Peter and the disciples did not obey the high priest (their leaders) in Jerusalem (Acts 5:29). They said, “๐–๐ž ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐›๐ž๐ฒ ๐†๐จ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐š๐ง ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง."

Our unconditional obedience is towards the ๐–๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐†๐จ๐ (which is God's final authority). In other words, you don't have to obey any leader who is not speaking in alignment with the Word of God.

Heb 13:17 is about obeying the leaders who speak the Word of God. It's not unconditional obedience towards any leader, unless they speak in alignment with the Word of God. If they are just giving opinions that are not found in the Word of God, you have a choice because your primary allegiance is not to men, but God.

If they are speaking according to the Word, then your obedience towards them is also your obedience towards God.

Leadership is best learnt in the family, since family is the foundation of true leadership in church (1 Tim 3:4). As the head of the household, demanding obedience from your child or your wife does not work. It has to be done in the context of love, for obedience is a response to love.

This foundation does not change when it comes to the church. The leader's job is not to get enough obedience from the flock by quoting Heb 13:17, but to pour out enough love to them.

Paying the Price for the Anointing

You don’t pay a price for the anointing. You can’t pay it. You can’t afford it. Even if you sacrifice your life, you still cannot produce the anointing.

Christ paid for it. Only the Anointed & Chosen One (aka Messiah) could pay for the anointing by His sacrifice.

You and I are the beneficiaries of His sacrifice. The anointing is freely given if you believe right and receive it by grace through faith.

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” - James 1:6-8

A person in doubt will not receive anything from the Lord. It’s not that God is not giving. The passage doesn’t say that. Because He already did. He already gave through Christ. The problem does not lie with His giving. It lies with your receiving.

If you think you need to pay a price for His anointing, it is no wonder you don’t have it. Because you don’t believe that the price was already paid and you could simply receive it.

P.S: The anointing has nothing to do with power in the first place. It has to do with the position of sonship.
